Main cities in Sicily


Sicily is an island that is ideal for your holiday stay. In it there are many tourist cities to see and enjoy, and also find accommodation in. Cities like its capital, Palermo, or tourist and legendary cities like Siracusa, Ragusa, Enna, Catania, or the very well known city of Corleone, famous for the Godfather Series.

Palermo is the capital of Sicily and the most important city here. There are over 700,000 inhabitants that live here, and over a million if you count its metropolitan area, which makes it one of the most populated cities in Italy, after Rome, Milan, Turin, and Naples. Palermo is also a place of entry to the island, next to Messina, a city with fabulous beaches and famous monuments to visit and enjoy during your holiday.

Aside from Palermo, you should see cities like Siracusa, a monument in it self to humanity, and a city to see and visit. It was a legacy that the Romans, Greeks, and Byzantines, amongst others came and left their legacy. Today it has a population of about 130,00 people. Another city is Ragusa, known for its high part, low part, and monuments.

As far as tourist destinations go, we mustn't forget Mesina or Taormina, two very touristy places around Etna in the eastern part of the island, in front of the Italian Peninsula and the Province of Calabria.

Cantania is also a place to see, not only because it is the second most largest city on the island, and one of the most important to Italy, but also for its beauty, with Mount Edna crowning it at the top. Catania is a city that has seen as its legacy streams of lava during centuries, so this is definitely a place to visit.

Also, there are the cities of Modica, Ragusa, Enna, Argigento, or Bronte in the interior, cities here you can exchange the beach and sun for rural tourism.
